Why do I get an 'Unable to Record' message whenever I try to record?

Some users of RecordBox see the following message every time they try to record:

"Unable to record. Please contact support@myrecordbox.com for assistance."

This is mostly found on older versions of iPhones, iPads, and iPods with newer versions of iOS.

For instance, users using iOS 5 and iOS 5.1 on an iPhone 3GS or iPad 2 may see this message. Users running iOS 4 will not see this message on the same device.
